Varrick Douglas is a retired executive officer and commander in the Chicago Police Department with some three decades of service. He began his career in 1991 as a patrol officer. After that, he served as a sergeant in the Narcotics and Gang Investigation sections. During that period, among other roles, Varrick Douglas was a member of joint task forces with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He was later promoted to lieutenant and put in charge of operations for a designated district watch. In this role, he oversaw daily patrols and ensured public safety, implementing new community policing strategies to build trust. Varrick Douglas became Commander of an assigned district. He managed over 350 officers and visited police roll calls daily to offer guidance and check on officer welfare. Later, as Executive Officer, he assisted the Deputy Chief with the administration of multiple police districts. He reviewed reports and disciplined officers fairly according to department policies. Throughout his career, Varrick Douglas prioritized coaching and mentoring the officers under his command. He helped them develop their skills and advance while embracing the Chicago PD’s mission.
